About Miranda Literary Magazine

Miranda Literary Magazine is dedicated to long-form storytelling that lingers, deepens, and unfolds over time. Our mission is to champion extended prose narratives, novellas, novel excerpts, and other long works that offer immersive worlds, layered characters, and stories that could be classics. We believe that when writers are given the space to explore complexity, their work can challenge assumptions, invite empathy, and create lasting emotional resonance. We aren’t about fancy websites, just good reading that changes the way we see the world.

The name Miranda comes from Katherine Anne Porter’s semi-biographical character that appears in her novellas.

“I will try to tell the truth, but the result will be fiction.” – Katherine Anne Porter

Long prose matters because some stories simply cannot be told in brief. Longer forms allow characters to evolve in believable ways, relationships to develop organically, and themes to be explored with nuance rather than compressed into a single moment.

In a cultural landscape that often privileges speed, brevity, and instant gratification, Miranda invites readers and writers to reclaim sustained attention. By cultivating and sharing these extended narratives, Miranda Literary Magazine hopes to nurture a vibrant community that values the expansive possibilities of long-form fiction and the profound human connections it can create.
